When dabbing first made its revolutionary debut, a torch was almost always involved. Heating a nail made from titanium or quartz is definitely the standard consumption method, but not everyone owns a rig, and not everyone feels comfortable blasting an open flame.

The cost of filling the torch with butane alone is enough to deter some dabbers, but the technicality and inconvenience of the process send most over the edge. It’s not always easy identifying how many seconds is needed to perfectly heat your nail with a torch, and once you’ve got that time down, every smoke session is ruled by adhering to those mere seconds (or else you’ll risk wasting your concentrates).

Using an eNail is the optimal method for dabbing without a torch.

So, whether it’s the process or the price that sketches you out–you’re in luck because we’re breaking down ways to dab without a torch.

1. Use an eNail (recommended method)

eNails undoubtedly provide the easiest way to dab. eNails are devices powered by an electric control box that heats a metal coil wrapped around a titanium, ceramic, or quartz nail. Once the coil heats the nail to the temperature you set on the control box, you drop a dab of oil onto the nail and inhale the resulting vapor through your rig. This approach is the closest to using a real butane torch, but it’s considerably safer: The heated coil and nail are much less likely to start a fire if used safely. 2. Vaporize it

Vaporizers are another simple way to dab without a torch. Vape pens, for example, are perfect for dabbing on the go, and they’re a great way to make your oil last. Vaporizers contain a quartz, ceramic, or titanium coil in an atomizer chamber; the battery heats the coil and the coil vaporizes the oil. The battery holds a long charge, sometimes for days depending on your usage. Good vapes run anywhere from $30 to $200 or more, though the less you pay, the less you get.

3. Top a bowl

Hash oil has been around for a long time, believe it or not. Oil rigs and butane torches, on the other hand, are a relatively new part of the process. So how did they do it back in the day? Simple: They dabbed oil on a packed bowl of weed. To do this, use about two average dabs per bowl, but stretch it out if you’re sharing so everyone gets in on the oil. Ideally you should try to pack partway, dab, and repeat until the bowl is full. This allows you to smoke the oil without exposing it to open flame, which can burn off some of the THC.

4. Line a joint

There are a couple ways you can approach this method for dabbing without a torch or rig. You could dab the oil onto your weed as you spread it along the paper or crumble it up and sprinkle it throughout. Better yet, try to make a long snake out of your oil and wrap it around the outside of the joint.  Avoid putting wax on either end of the joint – too close to one end and you’ll burn off THC, too close to the other and you’ll get oil in your mouth.

There you have it – four ways you can dab without a torch.
