So you’re sitting around watching South Park and your friend turns to you and says, “Hey, I got some wax. Wanna dab?”

Little do they know, you’ve never taken a dab before, you don’t even really know what a dab is, and you have no idea what to expect. There are a few things you should keep in mind while taking your very first dab.

What is dabbing?

  1. IT’LL HIT YOU HARD, SO BE VERY CAREFUL.
    The “stuff” that is dabbed is commonly called concentrates – either oily or waxy – and even though these differ a little bit, they are smoked the same way. These compounds are almost pure “chemicals”, which is the stuff that affects users. Because of this, don’t take a huge rip your first time. Tell your friend you will do a small dab, inhale slowly, and gauge how you feel after a minute or so.
  2. YOU REALLY CAN DAB TOO MUCH.
    Surely one of your friends has an awesome story about how they took too big a dab and spent the next few hours laying on their bed, unable to move, imagining that their body has morphed into that of a helicopter. Awesome with quotes because it’s really not all that awesome. Don’t be that guy. Keep in mind that you cannot overdose – and nobody ever has – but you can dab too much, leading to uncomfortable highs, vomiting, and, in some cases, passing out. So remember: dab lightly, especially for your first time.
  3. YOU MIGHT FIND YOURSELF TRIPPIN’.
    Now matter how heavy of a regular smoker you are, nobody is used to the high chemical content that concentrates carry. One dab is said to be the equivalent of smoking three bowls, and for some people, that’s a lot in such a small amount of time. Don’t be surprised if you find dabs affect you more than you’ve ever experienced, which can sometimes lead to mild head trips. Don’t freak out, you’re gonna be okay… just dab less next time.
  4. SAY HELLO TO THE MUNCHIES… PROBABLY.
    After taking a dab, you’ll feel good. Then you’ll be thirsty. Then you’ll be hungry. You’ll be feelin’ good, thirsty, and hungry. Before you tell your friend that you’re down for a dab (as if you’ve dabbed a hundred times in your life), make sure you grab yourself a glass of water (or two) and something to munch on. You’ll be glad you did.
  5. ONCE YOU GO DABS, YOU DON’T GO BACK.
    Some people like to call it “the crack” of the industry, without the addict part. Dabs are an easier way for users to get a super clear, super quick results. Don’t be surprised if the regular stuff isn’t really good enough anymore.

All in all, make sure you enjoy yourself, and most importantly – remember to take a small, slow hit.
